I Got My Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM Lens today!

To say I am excited is an understatement. Today I received my long-awaited Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM Lens from B&H Photo.

I have been using the trusted Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L USM Lens for some time but admittedly I missed some great bird shots because 200mm was not enough. Now that I own the Canon 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM Lens I am anxiously looking forward to visiting the local parks and nature centers to improve my chances of getting great bird photos.

I attached the lens to my Canon EOS 7D and went in my backyard to test the image stabilizer feature. This Northern Mockingbird is the first bird captured with the new lens. The image was captured late in the evening around 7:30. The camera and lens were handheld.

First impression: the camera focuses quickly. This is my first IS lens so it will take a little while for me to get comfortable with this feature and fully understand when to use Mode 1,2 and 3. A very good first impression.
